The ratio between the height and width of your image must remain the same in order to preserve image quality. Therefore, if you want to download your QR code design at 80% of width of the original image’s width, the high will automatically adjust to 80% of the original image height.

First, make sure that you didn’t make any graphic changes to your QR code after you download it. Any inappropriate resizing, change in code’s color or any other changes in code can make it less scannable. The best thing to do here is to finalize your complete design and only then place your QR code design on to it. Second, check the image size must be 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm or 3 cm x 3 cm or above if you want to use it on newspaper. Any image less than this size cannot be scanned. If your QR code meets all above criteria, then try scanning the code in better lighting, but make sure that the code is not printed on over reflective surface. Make sure that the code is not partially covered, smeared, faded or damaged. You need to check if the camera is able to focus clearly on the code. Another thing to check is that your camera must have auto-focus feature, and the code must not be too small else you will not be able to scan the QR code.
